Identity of Madar (Ruiak)
Madar or Ruiak is a medicinal plant, which grows on its own in barren land, or open and dry areas all over India. It is found throughout the world in warm climates with dry alkaline and sandy soils. Mainly it has two varieties. Calotropis procera (purple flower) and Calotropis zingatae (white flower) are small honeycombed. There are colored spots on the flower. Its fruit is like a mango, which contains cotton. Milk comes out from the branches of Aak. That milk acts as poison. Aak happens on sandy ground during summer. Madar plant is 120 to 150 cm tall. This forest is widely available, it is used as a homeopathic medicine by the name Calotropis gigantea. It is also known by other names like Ark, Akda, Akua, Madar, Aakh, Akwan, Shrava, etc.
