                                           Identification of Vidhari Kand

                                                     

Vidarikand's circular climbing vines are found especially on the banks of river drains and in the parts of the lower hills of the Himalayan region up to a height of about 1300 m. The taste of its tuber is somewhat like honey, hence its name is Swadukand. Because of being dear to horses, these vines are called Gaj Vajipriya. New tubers of Vidarikand are often sold in the mandis by the name of Sural. The skin of the tuber is light brown and white from inside. It appears white after cutting and drying the tuber. In the Charaka Samhita, a description of the qualities of Vidari is found in the Shaka class. In Rajayakshma, it is described in the form of sublimation along with other substances and in the treatment of stone and urine.
